Understanding the Camera Lenses on the Galaxy S10 5G

Last modified : Jun 21. 2019

You can take professional-looking photos in any setting, even if you’re not a pro. With the Galaxy S10 5G’s six camera lenses, you can enjoy various shooting scenarios, from detailed close-ups to ultra-wide shots and real time Live Focus videos.

The quad rear camera's Ultra-wide, Wide, and Telephoto lenses let you capture various types of photos with different angles of view, and the dual front cameras can capture UHD videos. Even when recording videos, the front and rear depth cameras can create a Live Focus effect that blurs the background, like in a movie, to create a sense of distance between the subject and background. With the Galaxy S10 5G, you never have to lug around a heavy DSLR and a bunch of lenses.

Check out our page Using the 3D Depth camera to learn how to capture quality Live Focus videos and photos on your Galaxy S10 5G.

Selecting a lens for shooting

You can capture photos and record quality videos using various angles of view with the Ultra-wide lens, wide-angle lens, and telephoto lens (2x optical zoom). On the preview screen, tap Photo or Video, select the lens you want, and then take a photo or record a video.

Select photo or video and slect either Ultra wide shooting, basic shooting or x2 optical zoom shoting.
1 The Ultra-wide lens lets you take wide-angle photos or record wide-angle videos which look just like the actual view. Use this feature to take landscape photos.

To correct the distortion in photos taken with the Ultra-wide lens, head into your Camera settings > Save options > toggle on Ultra-wide shape correction.

You can capture photos and record quality videos using various angles of view with the Ultra-wide lens, wide-angle lens, and telephoto lens (2x optical zoom). On the preview screen, tap Photo or Video, select the lens you want, and then take a photo or record a video.

2 The wide-angle lens lets you take basic photos or record normal videos.
3 The Telephoto lens (2x optical zoom) lets you take photos or record videos much clearer by enlarging the subject.

Please Note: The Ultra-wide camera lens does not support flash. As the camera lens supports a 123˚field of view, the flash cannot cover the entire area captured. Normal use of the Ultra-wide lens is designed for capturing larger scale scenery or infrastructure, in these cases the flash would not be effective.

Photo mode (Intelligent camera)

The camera adjusts the shooting options automatically depending on the surroundings to capture photos easily. The intelligent camera feature automatically recognises the subject and optimises the colour and any effects.

Scene optimiser

The camera adjusts the colour settings and applies the optimised effect automatically by recognising the subject. On the shooting modes list, tap Photo. When the camera recognises the subject, the scene optimiser button will change and the optimised colour and effect will be applied.

If you haven't enabled Scene Optimiser head into your camera settings > toggle on Scene Optimiser.

Shot suggestions

The camera suggests the ideal composition for the photo by recognising the position and angle of your subject. On the preview screen, tap the settings cogwheel and toggle on Shot suggestions to activate it this setting.

1 Point the guide at the subject.

The camera recognises the composition, and the recommended composition appears on the preview screen.
2 Adjust the position and angle of the camera to fit the composition. When the ideal composition is achieved, the guide will change to yellow.
3 Once the ideal composition is achieved, tap the white button to capture the shot.

Using Quick Measure

The 3D Depth Camera's ability to measure distances pairs up with AR intelligence to give you Quick Measure.* Check to see if your new stool will fit before you take it home, and if your new houseplant pot will fit on top. Simply point your camera at an object to get its measurements. For more information about the setup and installation of Quick Measure, check out our page Using Quick Measure on the Galaxy S10 5G.

Using Quick Measure

*Any measurements provided by Quick Measure may not be accurate and should be used for reference purposes only. Accuracy of Quick Measure may differ depending on various factors including shooting conditions, such as being outdoors, and object characteristics, such as being too large, very small, highly reflective, or extremely dark.  Quick measure is a dedicated app exclusive to the S10 5G.
