Technology is transforming how we all learn, work and communicate at an amazing rate. Samsung Not a School is for our next generation of innovators motivated to drive positive change in the world.
Not a School is a free, two-week-long alternative educational
experience co-created with and for young people aged 18-25.
It
will take place online this year, from September 2020. We will be exploring current issues that you told us
matter
most through a mix of virtual workshops, debates and problem-solving
briefs. With some amazing speakers and hands-on mentorship,
each
session is designed to help you gain the practical skills you need
to build a brilliant future.
Whilst applications for this year's two-week immersive course are now closed, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn new skills, fulfil their potential and contribute to solving some of the biggest issues facing our society today.
We also believe that learning is a personal experience, and everyone is different.
That's why we will soon be announcing other ways you can get involved with Not A School this year - check back here for more details!

Respecting our differences online

How can a difference of opinion bring us closer together online?
As recent events around the world have shown, celebrating diversity and achieving equality is still a work in progress for society. Within the digital space specifically, there is much work to be done. While the internet can be part of the problem, it’s also key to finding the solution. We will be exploring questions such as ‘How can we re-learn healthy debate and criticism online?’ or ‘How can we cancel cancel culture?’
Turning climate anxiety into positive action

How can technology unlock activism in everyone?
The urgency and gravity of the global climate crisis has never been clearer - but how do we start tackling it on a personal level? Are the debates being dominated by non-representative voices? Our exploration of the climate crisis is framed around accessibility and community building, taking everyone on the sustainability journey. We will be debating topics ranging from food waste and plastic, to fast fashion and emissions and the role of technology in solving these issues.
Solving inequality in education

How can technology enable us all to be educators?
Now more than ever we are looking for new ways to educate ourselves and share our knowledge with those around us. By redefining who we see as our ‘teachers’ and democratising education, could we help to level the playing field? We will explore the fundamental concept of education, inequality and whether technology could be used to distribute education more fairly.
Building human connection in a digital world

How can we use technology to end isolation?
We may be more connected than ever, but research has shown that loneliness affects 1 in 3 young people. As our world grows increasingly digitised, questions around social inclusion and human connection have never been more important. We will be covering questions such as ‘How is loneliness felt by different generations and by people in different circumstances?’, ‘What barriers does technology need to overcome to help end social isolation?’
