How to use Scenes in Samsung SmartThings

Last modified : Dec 19. 2018

Once you have compatible devices added into the SmartThings app, you'll be able to build Scenes to control individual or groups of devices all at once. The actions you can set depend on the type of devices you have added into your Location.

The options are pretty endless - you can use one button on your device to switch off a group of lights, or set motion sensors to send an alert if they recognise activity at the house while you're out and about. It's all under your control, so you can customise your devices as you see fit.

Please Note: Only devices added to a Location are able to be controlled by a Scene.

Check out the step by step guides in the dropdowns - in the examples below we're setting two lights to turn off when we are 'Away' from the Location - but the steps are similar no matter what compatible devices you have under your control.

How to Trigger ScenesClick to Expand

Once you have the Scene set up, getting it to run is pretty simple. All you need to do is press the Scene card to run the actions associated with your Scene. The card is available in both the Dashboard and the Devices tab in the SmartThings app:

Trigger a Scene from the SmartThings Dashboard:

Tap the Scene Tile in the SmartThings dashboard

Tap the Scene card in the SmartThings dashboard to run the actions.

Trigger a Scene from the Location:

Tap Devices and select the Location to find the Scene

Open SmartThings, select Devices and use the top left drop-down to select the Location. Tap the Scene Icon to run the actions.

Trigger a Scene from the Notification Panel:

Slide down the Notification panel, select Scenes, and tap the Scene to run the actions

If you're using the SmartThings app on a Samsung Galaxy device, you may be able to trigger scenes directly from the Notification Panel. Slide the notification panel down, select Scenes, and tap the Scene to run the actions.
