Does a partitioned USB hard drive work on my TV?

Last modified : Aug 20. 2019

Yes, the TV will treat each partition as if it were an individual USB hard drive, for example, if the hard drive has 4 partitions, then the TV will display 4 USB drives. The HDD or flash drive must meet the following specifications:

●     Portable HDD type

●     USB 2.0

●     4GB minimum storage

●     2TB maximum storage

●     Read capacity 20MB per second

●     Write capacity 34MB per second

●     At least 5400 RPM recommended speed

●     Supported file systems are FAT, exFAT and NTFS

Please note:

●     MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) is not supported. Certain types of USB digital camera and audio devices may not be compatible with a specific TV.

●     Certain files, depending on how they were encoded, may not play on the TV.

●     When connecting an external hard drive, use the USB (HDD) port. We recommend that you use an external hard drive with its own power adapter.

●     Even though USB 3.0 devices are backward compatible they will still need to meet the specifications mentioned above.

2015 and above TV models:

●      The TV supports MSC (Mass Storage Class) USB devices only. MSC is a class designation for mass storage devices.

●      A USB hard drive with a speed of 5,400rpm or above is recommended. However, RAID-type USB hard drives are not supported.

●      If there are multiple USB devices connected to the TV, the TV might not be able to recognise some or all the devices. USB devices that use high-power input should be connect the USB [5V, 1A] port.

●      A Smart TV may not recognise a 3TB or 4TB hard drive. Re-partitioning the hard drive to 2TB in a PC may be detectable and read by the TV.
