Change Picture Size on a Samsung TV

Last modified : May 06. 2019

Most Samsung TVs will allow several different options for changing the Picture Size. Depending on the TV and input signal, you may be able to change the Picture Size to:

  • 16:9 Standard Display the picture in widescreen aspect ratio.
  • Custom Customise the aspect ratio manually.
  • 4:3 Display the picture in Standard (low definition) aspect ratio. Suitable for VHS and standard definition broadcast.

Please see the table at the bottom of the page for information on Picture Size availability depending on Input Source.

Warning: Do not watch your TV in 4:3 mode for extended periods of time. This can cause black bars to "burn in" to the screen and appear as temporary or permanent after-images on the display.

Changing the Picture Size:

1 Press the Menu button on you remote control and then select Settings > Picture .
Picture Size
2 Select Picture Size to choose the aspect ratio of your preference.

If 4:3 is missing - see the table at the bottom of the page for information on Picture Size and Input Sources.

Changing the picture size automatically:

The TV will automatically recognise the aspect ratio of the broadcast or input. Follow the menu path below to turn Auto Wide on:

  • Settings > Picture > Picture Size > Auto Wide

Please note: Auto Wide is not available on all TV models.

Changing the picture size to 4:3 or Screen Fit Mode:

Depending on the specific TV model, you may be able to set the display to 4:3 or Screen Fit mode:

  • Settings > Picture > Picture Size > 4:3 Screen Size

Please Note: Depending on the specific TV model, 4:3 mode may not be available when an external device is connected to the TV via a Component connector or an HDMI connector.

Changing the picture size to Fit To Screen

You'll need to adjust Picture Size settings to enable Fit to Screen Mode.

  • Settings > Picture > Picture Size > Fit to screen

Adjusting the picture size and/or position

When the Picture Size is set to Custom, you'll be able to adjust the screen zoom and position. To change the position on the display on analog channels, enlarge the image first and then change the position.

  • Settings > Picture > Picture Size > Zoom/Position
