What is Timeshift on my Smart TV?

Timeshift is a function on your television to record contents to your storage device for later viewing. This function is only available when a storage device (USB, Hard disk drive, etc) is connected to your television. This function is model specific, it’s best to check the full user manual for more information.

How does Timeshift (recording) work?

You can watch one channel and record its subsidiary channel. For example: Watch ABC1 and record ABC2 at the same time.

Please Note: You can’t watch Channel 10 and record Channel 9 at the same time.

 

To watch one channel and record another you need to have an external tuner (Hard disk recorder) attached to your TV to be able to use both tuners at the same time.

Timeshift (recording) preparation

You will need to use either USB flash drive or Hard Disk Drive. If you are using Hard Disk Drive please refer to your TV user manual and check the recommend specs for HDD. If you are using HDD make sure to insert into the USB on the TV that is labelled under (HDD) otherwise it won’t work. If you are using USB flash drive you insert into any USB port one the TV.

 

Select the channel (programme) that you want to timeshift (or record). When you connect the USB or HDD drive, the TV will run through a performance test on the drive that is connected to the TV. It will either pass or fail the performance test. If it fails the performance test, it means your drive is not supported or not compatible. If the drive passes the performance test, the drive will be formatted to the TV. This means the drive will only be read when attached to this tv.

Please Note: We don’t recommend USB flash drives due to different read/write speeds.

Important DRM information:

 

After timeshift (recording) the file will be saved on the drive in a specific format. This will will only play back on the same TV that was formatted on due to DRM (Digital Rights Management). The files will not load or play if you move the USB or HDD drive to another TV/PC.

Please Note:  If the TV gets serviced; especifically if the Mainboard (PCB) gets replaced, you will not be able to access the recordings on your USB/HDD drive as the DRM locks to the physical hardware of the TV.


The same issue exists if your TV gets replaced or if you buy a new TV; you will not be able to use the recorded titles from this drive on the new TV.
