Bixby: What is Bixby Vision and how do I use it?

Bixby Vision


Bixby Vision is software built into your camera, Bixby Home, Gallery, and Samsung Internet to give you a deeper understanding of what you’re looking at. It uses object recognition to translate words, shop online, or identify landmarks and businesses around you.

Note: Screens and settings available may vary depending on your Canadian wireless service provider and your software version.

Bixby Vision: Translate


Note: Translate foreign languages or extract text to your Galaxy S8+ just by pointing your camera at texts.

1. Launch the Camera app and then touch Bixby Vision.

2. Point the camera at the text you want to translate and then touch Text.

Note: If the Text option does not show up, try from a different angle.

3. Touch Translate.

Note: Use Extract to save or share the text.

4. If the source language does not change automatically, try changing it manually. Touch the selected source language to change it manually.

5. Choose the desired Source language. For this example, choose Spanish.

6. Drag your finger across the text you want to translate. If the text you want to translate is not available to highlight, try taking another picture of the text.

Bixby Vision: Extract


Note: Manually copying a physical text to your phone is a task of the past. Point Bixby Vision to a business card, and when the text is recognized it will extract the information for you to add to contacts or for you to copy.

1. Launch the Camera app and then touch Bixby Vision.

2. Point the camera at the text you want to extract and then touch Text.

Note: If the Text option does not show up, try from a different angle.

3. Touch Extract.

4. Bixby Vision will automatically extract the text.

Bixby Vision: Shopping


Note: When Bixby helps you shop, it identifies the product you want to buy and searches for similar products online.

1. Launch the Camera app and then touch Bixby Vision.

2. Point the camera at the item you want to shop online and then touch Shopping.

Note: If the Shopping option does not show up, try from a different angle.

3. Bixby provides you with similar items sold online. If you are not satisfied with the results, touch View results on Amazon to view millions of similar items on Amazon.

Bixby Vision: Place


Note: If you find yourself in a cool place you've never been and want to know a little more about it, take a picture and choose Place. Bixby will provide the details.

1. Launch the Camera app and then touch Bixby Vision.

2. Point the camera at a place/landmark you want to know more about and then touch Place.

Note: If the Place option does not show up, try from a different angle.

3. Bixby provides you with information for the place/landmark. If you want to see more information, swipe left.

Bixby Vision: Image


Note: Use this when you take a cool picture and want Bixby to find other images like it.

1. Launch the Camera app and then touch Bixby Vision.

2. Point the camera at the object you want to search and then touch Image.

Note: Bixby Vision also has Wine Vision! This feature recognizes wine labels in an image, and displays information about the wine.

3. Bixby pulls up related online images. If the provided image is not related, try taking another picture of the object from a different angle.

Bixby Vision: QR code


Note: Using this option tells Bixby to open the URL of the QR Code you scan.

1. Launch the Camera app and then touch Bixby Vision.

2. Point the camera at a QR code and then touch QR code.

3. If the QR code option is not available, try cropping the box to fit the QR code.

4. Bixby will open up the QR code's URL.
