Galaxy Smartphone - My device factory resets when I insert SIM card into my new device

1 Ensure that your SIM or USIM card is inserted in your device.

[Caution] When you proceed with the initial setup for the first time after inserting the SIM or USIM card, your device will perform a factory data reset. In this case, the data transferred from your previous device will be deleted.

 

Background

SIM Profiling: This process is applied only in Canada to models listed below.

 

SM-G970W, SM-G973W, SM-G975W, SM-N960W, SM-A530W , SM-G960W, SM-G965W, SM-N950W, SM-J327W, SM-G930W, SM-G950W, SM-G955W, SM-A520W, SM-G935W, SM-J120W, SM-J320W, SM-G390W

 

In order to retrieve the Carrier’s setup (Carrier’s software environment), when your SIM is inserted to your device for the first time factory data reset will occur and reorganize the software environment to map to carrier requirements. This will install your carrier's software environment.

 

This process occurs only once when SIM is inserted for the first time.

 

If you change your carrier and SIM card, SIM profiling will not occur any more. Carrier specific software/app will not be configured, as it has already been installed with software environment from first SIM card insert.
