How to stream from an iPhone using Airplay 2 on Smart TVs

With AirPlay 2, Samsung customers can stream videos, photos, music, podcasts, and more from Apple devices to select Samsung Smart TVs and Smart Monitors. Read on to find out how to use AirPlay 2 to stream to your Samsung TV or monitor and whether your TV is compatible with AirPlay 2.

The AirPlay feature is available on specific Samsung TVs and monitors produced from 2018 onwards.

Check out the following list to see which devices are AirPlay 2 compatible:

  • 2021 27" and 32" M5 Smart Monitors
  • 2021 32" M7 Smart Monitor
  • 2021 8K and 4K QLED TVs
  • 2021 Frame TV
  • 2021 Crystal UHD TVs
  • 2020 8K and 4K QLED TVs
  • 2020 Frame and Serif TV
  • 2020 Premiere Projector and Crystal UHD TVs
  • 2019 8K and 4K QLED TVs
  • 2019 Frame, Serif, and 4K UHD TV
  • 2018 Frame TV
  • 2018 QLED 4K
  • 2018 4K UHD TV
  • 2018 Smart Full HDTV N5300

You can also check if your device is compatible in the settings menu.

1 Navigate to Settings.
2 Select General.
3 If there is an option for Apple AirPlay Settings, then your device is compatible. If there is no option for AirPlay, then your device is not supported.

Using AirPlay 2 you can easily stream photos and videos captured on your device to your Samsung TV. Before starting, make sure that your TV and Apple device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

1 Open the Photos app
2 Select the photo or video that you want to share
3 Tap the share icon at the bottom left of the screen
4 Tap on AirPlay
5 Tap the TV that you want to stream to
6 A code may appear on your TV screen. Enter the code into the corresponding notification on your phone and tap OK
7 Your image should now be visible on the TV
8 If you want to stop displaying your image, tap Turn off AirPlay and you image will stop displaying

Once your Samsung and Apple device are connected to the same Wi-Fi connection, you can easily play all your favourite songs through your TV or monitor speakers.

1 Make sure that your Apple device and Samsung device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network
2 Open the music player on your device and choose a song

Please note: If you are already listening to music, you can use the control centre to quickly connect. Swipe down from the upper right of the screen to open the control centre and tap the AirPlay icon on the audio player.

3 Tap the AirPlay icon at the bottom of the screen
4 Tap the device that you want to stream to

Please note: If a code appears on the TV screen, you will need to enter it on your device to connect

5 To stop playing music, tap the AirPlay icon again and deselect your TV or monitor
1 Open the Settings menu on your TV
2 Select General
3 Select Apple AirPlay Settings

You will have the following options:

  • AirPlay: use this option to turn the AirPlay feature on and off.
  • Require Code: this option allows you to require a code the first time you connect an Apple device, every time you connect, or to create your own code. From this option you can also select Reset Paired Device, which will clear all Apple devices from the TV memory.
  • Subtitles and Captioning: using this menu you can turn captions and subtitles on or off. You also have several options to adjust the look of the captions such as font, size, and colour.
  • About AirPlay: here you can find information about the AirPlay version that is running and see legal information about the software.

Your Samsung Smart Monitor is compatible with AirPlay sharing from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. 

1 Open the Settings menu on your monitor
2 Select General
3 Select Apple AirPlay Settings
4 Open the Photos app on your Apple device
5 Select the photo or video that you want to share
6 Select the Share icon in the bottom left of the screen
7 Select the AirPlay icon
8 Select your Smart Monitor to begin streaming
