How To Get The Best TV Picture?

As the No.1 TV brand for 16 consecutive years, Samsung continues to shape TV history thanks to its dedication to research, innovation and evolution of TV picture quality. With such a wide range of Samsung TVs on offer, we take a closer look at how you can achieve the best TV picture quality, whether you have a Samsung OLED TV, Neo QLED or the latest 8K TV - we’re here to help.

What is a good TV picture quality?

When it comes to choosing a TV with the best picture quality, a TV with a high resolution is a good place to start. A TV's resolution is defined by how many pixels, both horizontal and vertical, are shown on screen. Higher resolution displays allow you to see the finest of details in your favourite games, films, and TV shows. While the resolution isn't the only aspect of picture quality, it's certainly important, and most of us will notice the difference between a high-resolution TV and a low-resolution one.

Most TVs nowadays offer at least a Full HD (FHD) picture quality, sometimes known as 1080p. If you are looking for a clear image and sharp resolution, 1080p is the minimum picture quality you should go for.

Is 4K or 8K TV better TV picture quality?

So, we know that more pixels equal a higher resolution and whilst a 4K TV provides truly amazing clarity, if you’re looking for the most immersive viewing experience available, an 8K TV tops the picture quality charts. In fact, 8K offers 4 times as many pixels than a 4K TV and a staggering 16 times as many pixels compared to a 1080p TV. Standard Mode is the default setting right out of the box and is a mode that anyone can enjoy in a typical indoor environment. Whether it's in the morning or at night, this mode has a stable and adequate brightness suitable for most and provides optimal image quality for your screen while using energy efficiently.

Natural Mode

Comfortable and easy

Natural Mode is a picture mode that detects changes in the brightness of a scene and then naturally re-expresses those changes within a range more comfortable to consumers. If you tend to be sensitive to colours and brightness, then Natural Mode is recommended because it outputs an appropriate amount of light that helps reduce your eye strain and fatigue.

Do bigger TVs have better picture quality?

The bigger your TV screen, the easier it is to appreciate its picture quality. If you choose to go big check your TV has a good enough resolution to support the screen size. We recommend opting for 4K or even 8K technology for TVs over 50-inches to ensure the best picture quality. Without this superior display technology the images you see on the screen may actually deteriorate as the size of your TV increases.

Looking for the best picture quality on a big TV? Look no further than an ultra-high-resolution TV like Samsung's Neo QLED 8K HDR Smart TV. What Samsung picture mode is best for gaming?

For the best gaming experience, you’ll want to tweak your picture settings on your Samsung TV. Here are our recommended settings to achieve the most gamer-friendly TV picture quality.

1. Activate Input Signal Plus
To get the best picture settings, you should enable Input Signal Plus which expands the input signal range for HDMI connections. This will mean that the graphics in your game will be enhanced and you can see all the finer details with greater clarity. Follow the steps below to activate Input Signal Plus:

1. Press the Home button on your Smart TV remote
2. Navigate to Settings
3. Select General
4. Select External Device Manager
5. Select Input Signal Plus
6. Select the HDMI that your games console is connected to
7. Select Close to finish the process.

Please Note: This setting is called HDMI UHD Colour in 2018 and older TV models.

2. Activate HDR+ Mode
HDR (High Dynamic Range) is an intelligent technology that improves the brightness levels and colour depths that you see on your TV. If your gaming content is non-HDR, the HDR+ Mode on 4K UHD Samsung TVs adds the HDR effect to your gameplay. Follow the steps below to activate HDR+ Mode on your compatible TV:

1. Press the Home button on your Smart TV remote
2. Navigate to Settings
3. Select Picture
4. Select Expert Settings or Special Viewing Mode depending on your TV model
5. Select HDR+ Mode to activate it

3. Enable Game Mode
Game Mode reduces input lag which significantly improves the responsiveness when playing fast-paced action games. On some Samsung TV models, Game Mode is enabled automatically when a game console is the selected source.

Game Mode does lower the picture processing capabilities of the TV so we recommend switching back to a picture mode such as ‘Standard’ or ‘Movie’ when you stop gaming. You can easily turn Game Mode on and off on the Home Screen of your Samsung TV but you can also access Game Mode by following the steps below:

1. Press the Home button on your TV remote
2. Open Settings
3. Select General
4. Select External Device Manager
5. Select Game Mode Settings
6. Turn Game Mode on

Please Note: 4K 120Hz Game Mode is only supported on a select range of Samsung TVs produced from 2019. Read our helpful article on how to choose the best tv for gaming here.
