The word 'DESIGN' originates from the Latin 'DESIGNARE,' which means to designate, express, accomplish. Nowadays, design is used to express a wider range of ideas, from a plan or drawing to show the look and function of a building, garment, or other objects before these are built or made.
Design has been an integral part of civilisation, shaping the way we interact with our surroundings and express our creativity. Ancient civilisations used designs believing that these could grant magical powers and protection. With the development of societies, the subject of design has expanded to the realm of the public, including consumer goods, building and social structures.
With the development of technology, design has become more accessible to the public. People use design to create and customize their living spaces and create unique spaces that reflect their tastes and preferences.
Redefining Home Design with Samsung Bespoke
Home appliances were once dominated by standardised designs led by manufacturers, with little variation in colour and style. As society and individual thinking evolved, design gradually evolved as well. Despite this, many products continued to adhere to the manufacturer's perspective on mass production, resulting in a limited range of colours, such as white and silver.
In 2019, Samsung launched its Bespoke line of refrigerators, which allowed consumers to customize* the colour, type, and depth of their products. The line redefined the traditional boundaries of design by offering a variety of colours and customisable combinations for kitchen space. In 2021, Samsung extended the Bespoke line with Bespoke Home, which allows customers to extend their personal style beyond just the kitchen and into their entire living space.

At Fuorisalone 2023, Samsung showcased new designs under the theme "Bespoke Home, Bespoke Life," reflecting three core consumer values: design, connectivity, and sustainability. Bespoke Life allows customers to design a home that caters to their unique taste and life values.
