Changes to Gallery Sync, Samsung Cloud Drive and Premium Storage

A number of changes are being made to the services offered by Samsung Cloud in 2021. ‘Gallery Sync’, ‘My Files’ and Premium storage accounts are being discontinued and replaced by Microsoft OneDrive.

In the UK and Ireland, you’ll need to back up ‘My files’ and ‘Gallery Sync’ from Samsung Cloud by the 30th June 2021 so that you can keep all of the photos, videos and files that you want.

Your data associated with these features will be deleted permanently from the Samsung Cloud servers from 1st July 2021. (If you are not from the UK or Ireland, check which group you are in – Group 1 or 2 – so that you can find the dates applicable to the changes in your country).

To do this, you have 2 options:

1 Migrate your content to Microsoft OneDrive by 31st March 2021 using the OneDrive integration
2 Download your data to device or PC by 30th June 2021

What options do I have?

There are two ways to keep your existing Gallery Sync and/or Samsung Cloud Drive data.

1 Migrate to OneDrive until 31st March 2021

In the UK and Ireland, you can use the OneDrive integration until 31 March 2021. Using this feature, you can easily migrate and sync your photos and videos in the Gallery and files previously synced with Samsung Cloud into Microsoft OneDrive.

From 1st April 2021, this integration will not be supported and you will have to download to your personal storage.

2 Download to personal storage until 30th June 2021

In the UK and Ireland, you can download your data to one of your personal devices until 30 June 2021 by logging into your Samsung Cloud Account and following these instructions. If you choose this option, you will no longer be able to use Option 1 to migrate your data to OneDrive. The Gallery Sync and Samsung Cloud Drive features will end and you cannot use these features again.

From 1st July 2021, this feature will be discontinued and your personal data will be deleted.

When should I move my data?

The end of these features will be by country groups and based on different timelines. Please check if you are Group 1 or Group 2.

Group 1

You have until 31 March 2021 to migrate data from Samsung Cloud to Microsoft OneDrive.

From 1 April 2021 if you haven’t migrated or linked to Microsoft OneDrive your Gallery and My Files will no longer be automatically synced, and Samsung Cloud Drive will be discontinued.

On 30 June 2021 these Samsung Cloud features will be completely terminated and all your Gallery Sync and Samsung Cloud Drive data will be deleted. You will still be able to download your cloud data before this date to your mobile device or PC through the Samsung Cloud website.

Please note: Applicable data will be deleted on the earlier of the two dates – 90 days from the moment you request downloading data or the final end of feature date.

Group 2

You have until 31 May 2021 to migrate data from Samsung Cloud to Microsoft OneDrive.

From 1 June 2021 if you haven’t migrated or linked to Microsoft OneDrive your Gallery and My Files will no longer be automatically synced, and Samsung Cloud Drive will be discontinued.

On 31 August 2021 these Samsung Cloud features will be completely terminated and all your Gallery Sync and Samsung Cloud Drive data will be deleted. You will still be able to download your cloud data before this date to your mobile device or PC through the Samsung Cloud website.

Please note: Applicable data will be deleted on the earlier of the two dates – 90 days from the moment you request downloading data or the final end of feature date.

What if I have already integrated with OneDrive?

After signing into Samsung Account, you do not need to integrate the service with OneDrive again. You can use the Gallery Sync service with OneDrive. The OneDrive menu option will be displayed within the Samsung Cloud for Gallery syncing and My Files settings. Notice the Samsung Cloud Drive is no longer displayed.

Can I still use other features of Samsung Cloud?

You can continue to enjoy backing up/syncing and restoring other data such as Contacts, Calendar and Notes.
