How do I clear up space on my device

If you find that your device freezes sometimes or is sometimes unresponsive, it could be that your device may be running low on memory space required to run applications. Clearing memory space will free up more memory space and delete cached data, which allows apps to open and run more quickly.

Below are ways to free up some memory space on your device.

Battery and device care

The Battery and device care feature removes unnecessary data from your device, freeing up storage space. This will only delete cached, residual and advertisement files from your device. User files such as photos, videos and messages will not be removed.

Please note: The following steps may vary depending on the model and operating system of your device.

1 Swipe up from the home screen to access your apps
2 Tap "Settings"

4 Once your device has finished scanning, tap "Memory"

5 Tap "Clean Now".

Back up your files with Samsung Smart Switch

With Samsung Smart Switch you can back up your files to an SD memory card, a USB memory stick or an external hard drive. Once you have inserted the memory card or connected your device to the memory stick or external hard drive, follow the below steps to back up your data.

1 Swipe up from the home screen to access your apps
2 Tap "Settings"
3 Tap "Cloud and accounts"
4 Tap "Smart Switch"
5 Tap "External storage transfer". Depending on your device, you may need to tap "More" before choosing this option
6 Tap "Back up"
7 Select the data that you would like to back up
8 Tap "Back up" to transfer the files to your external storage device
