How do I clear up memory space on my device?

If you find that your device freezes sometimes or is sometimes unresponsive, it could be that your device may be running low on memory space required to run applications. Below are ways to free up some memory space on your device.

 

Device maintenanceClick to Expand

The Device maintenance feature removes unnecessary data from your device, freeing up storage space. This will only delete cached, residual and advertisement files from your device, user files such as pictures, videos and messages will not be removed.


Note that the following steps may vary depending on the model and operating system of your device.


1 From the home screen, choose Apps or swipe up to access your apps
2 Choose Settings
3 Choose Device maintenance or Device care
4 Once your device has finished scanning, choose Storage
5 Choose CLEAN NOW

Backing up your files with Samsung Smart Switch.Click to Expand

With Samsung Smart Switch you can back up your files to an SD memory card, a USB memory stick or an external hard drive.


Once you have inserted the memory card or connected your device to the memory stick or external hard drive, follow these steps to back up your data.


Note that the following steps may vary depending on the model and operating system of your device.


1 From the home screen, choose Apps or swipe up to access your apps
2 Choose Settings
3 Choose Cloud and accounts
4 Choose Smart Switch
5 Choose External storage transfer. Depending on your device, you may need to choose More before choosing this option.
6 Choose BACK UP
7 Choose the data that you want to back up
8 Choose BACK UP  to transfer the files to your external storage device

You can also back-up your data using Samsung cloud or Dropbox.
