How do I enable Always On Display

Always On Display is a feature that lets you see important information on your lock screen so you don't even have to touch your phone to stay up to date. You can customise your lock screen to display the time, date, currently playing music, the weather, your next alarm, what you have on for the day and Bixby routines. Read on to find out more about Always On Display or find out how to change the image or wallpaper on Always On Display.

Please note: Always On Display and some of its features are only available on certain devices. If your device looks different to the examples, you may not be able to use Always On Display or all of its latest features.

How do I activate or deactivate Always On Display?

Please note: If you have enabled a power saving mode, your Always On Display will be disabled. You will need to turn off the power saving mode to use the Always On Display.

Via the Notification panel:

1 Swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the notification panel.
2 Tap "Always On Display" to activate or deactivate.
3 Tap and hold "Always on Display", to open the Lock screen menu, then tap "Always on Display" to check the settings.

Via the Settings menu:

1 Go to “Settings”, then tap “Lock Screen”.
2 Tap the switch to activate or deactivate “Always On Display”.
3 Tap "Always on Display" to check the settings.
How do I change the settings?

Open the Always on Display menu either via the Notification panel or via the Settings menu. Then, choose your preferred Always on Display settings.

1 Select your preferred display mode.

  • Tap to show: The AOD appears for a few seconds when you tap the screen.
  • Show always: The AOD appears constantly.
  • Show as scheduled: The AOD appears during the times that you set. Tap “Set schedule” to edit the start and end time.
2 Tap "Clock style", then choose your preferred clock type from a selection of styles and design layouts. You can even upload your own images or GIFs. Tap "Done" to save.
3 Tap the switch to activate or deactivate "Auto brightness". If deactivated, you can slide the bar left or right to set it manually.
4 Tap "Rotate screen to", then select "Portrait" or "Landscape".
5 Tap the back arrow to save changes.

How do I choose which apps are displayed?

By default, Always On Display will display a clock and notifications when activated. You can also set the display to show the music that your device playing, today's schedule, your next alarm, the weather and Bixby Routines. 

1 Go to "Settings", then tap "Lock screen".
2 Tap "FaceWidgets".
3 Tap the switch(es) next to the apps you'd like to be displayed on your lock screen. Make sure that the "Always On Display" switch is activated.

4 To change the order, tap "Reorder", then hold your finger down on the arrows and move them up or down to reorder.

Please note: The clock will always be the first item displayed. This cannot be changed.
