What should I do if I suspect my Samsung fridge/freezer is leaking water?
Your fridge or freezer should never be leaking water. There are a number of common causes for leaks and fortunately many can be fixed at home. Try the solutions below to resolve the issue:
If the door isn't closing properly your appliance will heat up and water will begin to form. Make sure that your door is closing properly and that there is nothing blocking the door.
You should also check that the door seal is functioning correctly. You can check this in two ways:
- Pass your hand around the edge of the door to see if you can feel any cold air escaping
- Place a sheet of paper between the door, then try to pull it out. If you can pull the sheet out without any resistance the door isn't closing properly
The rubber door seals should be cleaned regularly, at least once every six months. If you find that the door seal isn't functioning correctly, even once it has been cleaned properly, it will need to be repaired or replaced.
If condensation or water drops appear on the doors, turn the Energy Saver mode off. The heater on the door does not operate when the energy saver mode is on. In addition, the Energy Saver mode will automatically turn on when power is supplied to the refrigerator. Therefore, when you restart the product, please check the mode and turn off the energy saver mode.

Food particles or other debris can easily get caught in the defrost drain. If this debris builds up it can clog the drain and cause water to leak out. If you think that the drain is blocked, turn off the power and wait for the defrost to melt. Do not pour hot water directly into the defrost drain or inside the refrigerator.
On the rear of the appliance there will be a number of hoses and connections. Check each connection to ensure that nothing is loose or damaged.
Condensation is supposed to run into a drip pan hidden underneath your appliance. If it is completely level or tipped slightly forwards, water may not be able to flow correctly and could leak onto the floor.
Check to ensure that your appliance is tipped slightly backwards, this can be done by adjusting the front legs. If installed correctly, the door should swing shut by itself.
Check to ensure that the leak is coming from your fridge/freezer. Melting ice cubes that have fallen under your appliance or spills from other locations are commonly mistaken for leaks.
